Abstract

Chapter 9 discusses the key purposes of retail loss prevention (LP) within businesses. It has wide-ranging objectives dealing with protecting assets, protecting people and protecting the retailer’s reputation. The chapter considers four different models of loss prevention work, the dominant one being audit/accountancy/contract. The chapter considers some of the evident ambiguities in the idea of shrinkage and the difficulties these may cause for loss prevention.
