Abstract
Germany is often regarded as the model student or Musterknabe of European integration. Even though this may have been the case for several decades, trends and patterns since the Amsterdam Treaty show a more differentiated picture between absorption on the one hand and partial reluctance on the other. While most of the European regulations are transferred into national law without any controversial debates, the German government and actors on the subnational level (Länder) have become increasingly resistant to further integration in the field of migration policy. It is important to mention that the generally small degree of misfit between European and German regulations is also linked to Germany’s role as an agenda-setter on the level of the European Union (EU).
