Abstract
Rabbi Moses Maimonides (1138–1204) is a preeminent figure of Jewish tradition. Maimonides’s Mishneh Torah, a massive codification of the entire range of Talmudic legal debate, is an indispensable tool for rabbinic scholars while his Guide for the Perplexed is one of the perennial classics of Jewish philosophy.1 Maimonides is also remembered as an exemplary and courageous communal leader.2
