Medicinal Chemistry Research - Call for Papers: a Special Issue in honor of Prof. Robert Vince

The special issue will be guest edited by Dr. Zhengqiang Wang and Dr. David Ferguson. Interested authors are invited to submit a review paper or research article to this special issue under the broad theme of drug design and discovery. The deadline for submission is 1 November, 2020.

Prof. Vince received his BS in Pharmacy and his PhD in Medicinal Chemistry working with Prof. Howard J. Schaeffer at SUNY Buffalo on the design of acyclonucleosides as antiviral agents. In 1967, he joined the medicinal chemistry faculty and rose through the ranks at the University of Minnesota. Prof. Vince continued his work on antiviral drug discovery at the University of Minnesota. His invention, the HIV drug, abacavir, was commercialized by GSK and has resulted in generation of revenue more than $600 million for the University of Minnesota. In 2002, Prof. Vince established, and has since served as the director of, the Center for Drug Design at the University of Minnesota, where he continues to maintain an active antiviral research program. Among the awards that Prof. Vince received over the years include recognition in the ‘Scholars Walk and Wall of Discovery’ at the University of Minnesota since 2006, induction into the ‘Academy for Excellence in Health Research’ by the Academic Health Center of University of Minnesota (2009), the ACS Medicinal Chemistry Hall of Fame (2007), Minnesota Inventors Hall of Fame (2010) and Minnesota Science and Technology Hall of fame (2011), and the recipient of the Imbach Townsend Award from the International Society for Nucleosides, Nucleotides and Nucleic Acids (2010) and the Inaugural Impact Award from the University of Minnesota (2014) and the Antonin Holy Memorial Award from the International Society of Antiviral Research (2016).
