Dermis is the inner layer of the skin. It varies in thickness according to the location of skin. It is 0.3 nm on eyelid while 3.0 on back. It is composed of three types of tissues which are present throughout the layers named as: (1) collagen, (2) elastic tissue, and (3) reticular fibers. The two layers of the dermis are the papillary and reticular layers. The upper, papillary layer, which is the outer layer, contains a thin arrangement of collagen fibers. The lower, reticular layer is thicker and made of thick collagen fibers that are arranged parallel to the surface of the skin.
