Basic Biographical Information
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was born in 1949 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He studied both in the UAE and Scotland, United Kingdom and is a graduate of Mons Military Academy (United Kingdom). After almost a decade of de facto rulership, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum became the Ruler of Dubai on January 4, 2006 and was appointed UAE Vice President as well as UAE Prime Minister.
A successful racehorse owner, he has also been instrumental in the creation of a number of companies including Emirates Airlines, Dubai World Ports, Emaar, Nakheel, and others. In 2008, Forbes magazine estimated his wealth at $18 billion.
Major Accomplishments/Contributions
In May 2007, the ruler of Dubai announced the establishment of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF) with a personal endowment of $10 billion in order to promote education in the Middle East. It is considered to be one of the largest charitable gifts in history. Although...
