Joint Statement of Presidents of the USSR and the USA on the Establishment of the Soviet-American Park in the Bering Strait Region – was signed on June 1, 1990. It recorded the willingness of the parties “to create a Soviet-American international park representing complex of special protection land and water areas in the Bering Strait region in the territory of Chukotka and Alaska.” In 1993 Russian natural and ethnical park “Beringia” was established. The creation of single Russian-American preserve area is in the near future.
