Polynya (Shore Clearing) – a channel between drift ice and the shore or between drift ice and fast ice. P. is temporarily formed on the rear parts of ice masses. It is of great importance for navigation. Near the northern coast of Chukotka, there is a channel between drift ice and the shore or between drift ice and dead ice.
