Perivascular myoid tumor

Definition

A benign tumor within the dermis or subcutis with prominent vascularity and perivascular myoid differentiation. It lies on a morphological continuum with myofibroma and glomangioma (Dray et al. 2006).

Clinical Features

  • Incidence

    Myopericytoma is rare.

  • Age

    Myopericytoma usually affects adults (Granter et al. 1998). However, it may occur at any age.

  • Sex

    There is a male predominance (Granter et al. 1998).

  • Site

    Myopericytomas usually develop within the dermis and subcutis, rarely in the deep soft tissues. Most affect distal extremities, followed by proximal extremities, neck, trunk, and seldom oral cavity (Granter et al. 1998).

  • Treatment

    Surgery is the treatment. Recurrence is very rare, even in case of marginal or incomplete surgical excision.

  • Outcome

    Myopericytoma is a benign, occasionally recurrent tumor (Mentzel et al. 2006). The occurrence of additional new myopericytomas in the same body region has been reported. Exceptionally rare...
