Definition

Nutrition, food choice, and eating behavior form the concept of dietary behavior. Within this concept nutrition is used as an umbrella term for aspects that describe what is being consumed, such as food, beverage, energy, macro- and micronutrient intake, as well as dietary and meal patterns (Stok et al. 2018). Dietary patterns define specific combinations of foods and beverages eaten on regular basis including a specific content of nutrients (Stok et al. 2018; Hu 2002). Meal patterns refer to frequency, time, and content of daily meals and the related energy and nutrient intake (Stok et al. 2018).

Lifestyle can be defined as personal and social behavior patterns that are typical for an individual or a group and comprise among others consumption behavior, domestic practices, leisure and work-related activities, and social interactions that are linked to values, attitudes, and sociodemographics (Veal 1993).
