Definition

Decent work is understood as the one that allows favorable conditions for its execution, gives equal treatment, and provides fair remuneration (ILO 2018a). In appropriate workplaces, employees’ safety is ensured as well as their social insertion and participation. There is opportunity for personal development and freedom to express opinions and engagement in matters involving the employees’ rights. Equality in the treatment of men and women is sought, since women represent half of the world’s population and their inclusion in access to decent jobs would contribute to poverty eradication as well as better access to education, health, and nutrition for their dependents (ILO 2018a; UN Women 2018a).
