This method is based on a simple, noninvasive diagnostic procedure using a short, comprehensive questionnaire, which was developed and validated by WHO.

The RAPLOA evaluation comprises three steps:

  1. 1.

Identification of local names for Loa loa eyeworm infections using a community-level questionnaire

  2. 2.

Collection of information on the history of eyeworm infections in a given village from adults in the community using a questionnaire with three key questions

  3. 3.

Calculations of the percentage of adults who report a history of eyeworm and on the basis of this percentage, prediction of the level of L. loa endemicity
