Introduction
The term “veganism” denotes both a dietary practice and a moral position with regard to the relationship between human and non-human animals (see Veganism). Veganism as a dietary practice, which is implied by moral veganism, means to refrain from the consumption of animal products for dietary purposes. Dietary vegans exclude meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, and other animal-derived products from their diet and therefore take a stricter stance toward the use of animal products compared to vegetarians, who consume eggs or dairy products (see Vegetarianism). As a moral position, it has large implications for individual lifestyles and society’s stance toward non-human animals, insofar as moral veganism forbids all forms of exploitation of animals serving human ends, including especially their use in the production of food and clothing.
