Synonym: Driblet cone landscape

This is a lava landscape that consists of small cones made up of small overlapping pieces of basalt. The upper part of the cone is small, and the basal part is large. The cone contains a cavity with lava spines and lava stalactites on the inner walls. There are openings at the top. More than 5,000 driblet cones of various sizes occur in groups in Wudalianchi. It is generally believed that they were formed in connection with vapour emissions. As hot magma flows, vapour is released intermittently when air accumulates inside the lava or when the lava encounters surface water. The emitted gas carries small lava fragments, which eventually accumulate in layers around the centre to form driblet cones (Fig. 22).
