In 2008, the Ministry of Land and Resources set up a team of assessors to conduct routine inspections of the development of geoparks. The roles of this assessment team include (1) ensuring that the laws and regulations of geological heritage protection are properly enforced in the geopark; (2) monitoring the development and progress of the geopark; (3) monitoring the implementation of the geopark planning; (4) auditing the proper use of geological heritage protection funding; (5) investigating damage to geological heritage and illegal developments due to unlawful activities; (6) submitting an inspector’s report to the Ministry of Land and Resources; and (7) investigating other matters associated with the healthy development of the geopark.
