This geopark is located in Yibin City in Sichuan Province. It is located in the southern part of the Sichuan Basin and in the transition zone to the Yunnan – Guizhou Plateau. The geopark covers an area of 130 km2and became a global geopark in 2005. It has four scenic districts, namely, Xiaoyanwan, Yuwangshan, Taian Shilin and Lingyu City. The unique geographic, geological and climatic conditions formed the Xingwen-style karst landforms. It is the location of the earliest tiankeng (sinkhole) research and nomenclature in China and is also the origin of the ‘Taian karst landscape’, which formed in Middle Ordovician limestone with mud cracks. The park preserves carbonate rocks and carbonate-bearing rock formations dating from approximately 490 million to 250 million years ago.
