Summary
In the framework of Molière’s multiple Coulomb scattering theory the corrections due to correlation effects are calculated exactly. In particular the weight function which relates the single-scattering angles and the corresponding multiple-scattering angle, and Molière’s parameterB are evaluated for every order of differences. The correlation coefficientsϱ mn (the ratio between them-th and then-th differences) are calculated as well, and relatively good agreement is found with experiment. Furthermore the standard deviation of the momentumvelocity productpv of the particle derived from the cosine function, first introduced byLipkin et al., was calculated for every order of differences. It is found that it increases by about 8% per one order of difference. Arguments are put forward that the standard derivation ofpv derived from other estimation functions, as for example the mean absolute angle, is at least as big as that derived from the cosine function.
