Spontaneous breakdown and current algebras

Summary

We demonstrate the equivalence of spontaneously brokenSU 2×SU 2 chiral invariance and current algebras in a field-theoretic model. The model consists of an isospinor Fermi field («nucleon») and an isovector, pseudoscalar, massless bound state («pion»). The spontaneous breakdown of the chiralSU 2 symmetry induces anE 3 symmetry at the observational level. Its consequences are examined and are shown to be equivalent to conventionalSU 2×SU 2 current algebra results.
