Abstract

New polymer-ceramic nanocomposites are being developed by exploiting the unique intercalation and self-assembling characteristics of layered ceramics. Although quite ubiquitous in nature, self-assembly has only been recently recognized as a viable approach to synthesize nanoscale materials. The observed physical and mechanical properties of the resulting nanocomposites are attributed to the molecular features and the synergism between the individual components.
