Abstract
Krolow’s poem serves as an example for the analysis of the topic/comment progression and the motival texture with its metaphorical linkages in poetic texts, which offers valuable insights into their semantic (content) structures.

Here Gerhard Schmid’s analysis of Krolow’s “Gedicht für J.S.” uses partly linguistic techniques, e.g., Wortfeldanalyse (p. 75–77). The reference to “Im Rückspiegel” in Hannah Marks, Moderne Dichtung verstehen (1966), p. 139f shows no comprehension of the textual setting.
