Abstract
The primary observational characteristics of variability in UV P-Cygni lines of O stars are illustrated. ‘Narrow components’ seen in almost all spectra are just one aspect of discrete absorption components, or DACs. The blueshifted DACs develop at ∼0.5v∼8 and then migrate to higher velocities; their production is probably related to the line-driven instability.
