Abstract

In order to perform attenuation correction in PET, the set of line integrals through the linear attenuation map at 511 keV corresponding to the geometry of the acquired PET data is needed. The fundamental step in CT-based attenuation correction is to use the CT images to generate the linear attenuation map at 511 keV. The use of PET-CT for cardiac applications, whether assessing myocardial viability or performing perfusion studies, requires a special consideration of the role of CT-based attenuation correction.
