We now discuss the standard “gravity only” Big Bang models that are based on the Robertson-Walker metric and the Friedmann equations. After a brief review of “the cosmic fluid” and “fundamental observers,” we give a concise derivation of the Robertson-Walker metric and examine some of its properties, then apply it to cosmic dynamics (the Friedmann equations). Finally we will discuss the recent discovery that the universe is accelerating, instead of slowing down (as expected from the standard “gravity only” model) and its implication for the evolution of the universe and other related problems.
