Abstract
This title in the plural has a sort of resonance. I realise it reminds me of a recent BBC TV series ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’, and perhaps my kind of writers are dinosaurs in the figurative sense. The dictionary spells it out like this: ‘fig. Something that has not adapted to changing circumstances, a clumsy survival from earlier times.’ And here I am, a survivor at seventy, writing this with a pen, in a house not only devoid of e-mail or DVD, but even of a word-processor.
