Abstract

Grinding is one of the most versatile of all the machining processes. It can be applied successfully to almost any component requiring precision machining, especially if the accuracy or surface finish required cannot easily be achieved by other machining processes. The range of materials which can be ground extends from rubber to the hardest carbides. Surface finishes of less than 0.025 µm CLA are obtainable under suitable conditions, while stock removal rates can exceed 160 cm3 per minute on large, heavy duty, machines.
