Abstract

The purpose of what follows is to clarify the relationship between the public and the private sectors of the economy. One needs to know how the division between the two sectors is determined or could be applied in the mixed economy in which we live. In approaching the matter we have to recall that the public authorities are directly responsible for certain identifiable undertakings, as well as having an overriding obligation for seeing that overall activity in the community is maintained at an adequate level, and also that the allocation of resources is such as to secure that particular needs are adequately met.
