Abstract

Small-cell carcinoma of the bronchus is a highly malignant tumour which is frequently widely disseminated at diagnosis, as seen in table (Hansen and Muggia, 1972; Margolis et al., 1974). Brain metastases are relatively common, 10 per cent of a combined series of 171 patients having brain metastases prior to treatment (Abeloff et al., 1976; Eagan et al., 1974; Einhorn et al., 1976; Hansen, 1973; Newman and Hansen, 1974).
