Abstract

Orchid plants are always perennial and most of the different habits that their growth forms may exhibit are represented among the species that occur in Africa. The majority are herbaceous plants. About half of these grow in the ground, as do other terrestrial plants, their roots hidden from view, while the other half are epiphytes, with aerial roots that are attached to the bark of bushes and trees and more or less exposed to view.
