Abstract
Of all the exciting advances in analytical toxicology which have taken place during the last decade, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) must rank high in the list. HPLC provides a versatile, rapid, sensitive and non-destructive technique for the analysis of many drugs, drug metabolites and common poisons. Because the application of HPLC to toxicology is so recent, few introductory texts are available for those wishing to explore this aspect of analytical chemistry. This brief review provides an introduction for toxicologists and includes explanation of some essential terms, column packing procedure and diagnosis of common faults, plus a summary of recent toxicological applications of the technique.
