Abstract

The Ecuadorian economy went through a highly dynamic ten-year period as a result of the oil boom which began in 1972. The industrialisation process,1 laboriously started nearly a decade before, found the required financial resources in the flood of foreign exchange from oil. The state played a decisive role in promoting and orienting growth and accumulation.
