Abstract
While the 1970s saw the creation and subsequent adaptations of the Procurement Executive within the Ministry of Defence, reductions in the size of the Ministry and a continuing search for targets for rationalisation, these years were, as the previous chapter describes, otherwise a low-profile period for the organisation of the Ministry. However, after the assumption of office by a Conservative administration in May 1979, the attention became much higher and the pace of change much faster.
