Abstract

Motor vehicle aerodynamics is a complex subject because of the interaction between the air flow and the ground, and the complicated geometrical shapes that are involved. Fuel economy is obviously improved by reducing the aerodynamic drag, and the benefits can be calculated easily for constant-speed operation. However, the actual benefit for normal use will be less, since drag reduction does not significantly reduce the energy required for acceleration at normal speeds.
