Abstract

Because of the strong regional traditions in Germany, the big cities often seem more like capitals than just provincial towns. This is not really surprising when one thinks that a number of these towns — for example, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Munich and Hamburg, which are all mentioned in this chapter — were all state capitals in the days when Germany consisted of a number of separate and largely independent states. So let us imagine that you have the chance to go sight-seeing in these towns, and you want to find out a little more about them. But first of all you want to check on the weather forecast, so read the forecast below first, and see whether you can answer the comprehension questions.
