Abstract

Learning foreign languages obviously involves travelling about quite a bit, using timetables, asking prices, and so on. The first of the reading passages suggests some of the things you would need to think about if you were travelling abroad by car. And what about Germans planning to come to Great Britain? The second passage shows you some of the information they can find out if they are planning a trip in this direction. The third passage tells about travelling by tram, a form of public transport which is still very popular in both the Federal Republic and the GDR, although trams are now very rare in Great Britain. The particular interest in the journey described in 2.1.3 is that it is the longest tram journey in the world.
