Development of Expert Robot Systems for Skilled Operation

  • Chapter
Proceedings of the Twenty-eighth International

Summary

This paper presents the implementation and the refinement process of a system which integrates computer vision, expert system and robotics. The starting point of this project has involved the construction of a robot snooker player. The main objective for the development of this system has been to investigate the means by which the robot can plan its moves by considering which pot, among the few possibilities, leads to the best outcome. The ultimate goal is to achieve a skilled operating level that compares to professional players. Lessons learnt from this system have and will lead to the formulation of important guidelines towards the construction of advanced robot systems for skilled tasks.
