Abstract
For a closed hydrostatic system the internal energy and the entropy can be completely determined when the equation of state and one of the principal heat capacities are known. This knowledge gives complete information about the thermodynamic behaviour of the system. The experimental programme necessary to describe the behaviour of a closed hydrostatic system would appear, then, to require the determination of the equation of state and the principal heat capacities for all equilibrium states of the system.
