Abstract

In Chapters 20 and 21, we investigate the activities of the two principal groups of operators in the investment and development sectors of the commercial and industrial property market. In this chapter we look at the property companies and in Chapter 21 the property-investing institutions. Not that these are the only groups taking part — major building contractors, other industrial and commercial companies and public authorities are also involved, but the property companies and financial institutions have dominated the market in the post-war period, and it is chiefly by a study of their functions and activities that an understanding of the market can be gained.
