Abstract

Is being a young mother any different from being any other mother? ‘Teenage mothers’ often find themselves on the receiving end of adverse publicity — ‘Irresponsible’, ‘dependent on the State’, ‘jumping the queue for council housing’, ‘unmarried and therefore immoral’ — yet the majority are successful as parents, often in difficult circumstances.
