Abstract

The properties and principles outlined so far in respect of cellular radio would appear to show that a roaming radiotelephone system can be set up quite specifically. Radio coverage in a cell can be well defined; co-channel interference from adjacent cells can likewise be defined; analog voice with FM operates in an assured manner; signalling over the network can be defined accurately, which likewise sets the pattern for digital cellular systems to be described in the following chapters. Are there remaining problems, and why is there the desire to move to digital cellular radio?
