Abstract

The potentially tricky operation of dynamic compressors, with their propensity to surge, has already been mentioned in section 1.3 and chapters 5 and 6. It is a big enough subject to merit its own chapter, before the way in which the compressor is matched to the turbine and the over-all engine operating characteristics are discussed in chapter 11.
