Abstract

An assembly-code program cannot be directly executed by the computer; it has to be translated to machine code before it can be run. This is done by a systems-software program known as an assembler. In this chapter, a complete assembler for the simple assembly code used in sections 15.1 to 15.5, will be described. Although the discussion is centred on SDC assembly and machine codes, the techniques used are common to all assemblers.
