Abstract
As explained in the previous chapter, the Third-World ambassador posted to a developed country can contribute to a new kind of international politics. To do this he must shed some of the traditions of his profession. At the outset, therefore, he is subject to a sharp dilemma. Should he adopt the ‘grand manner’ at the risk of being untrue to his country’s condition, or should he forego that manner at the risk of going unnoticed within the host country?
