Abstract
The first case of AIDS in the United Kingdom was reported in December 1981 (Dubois et al., 1981). By May 1985, 169 patients fulfilled the CDC epidemiological case definition of AIDS, with 78 deaths. The exponential rise continues with doubling of reported cases every 8 months.
