Abstract

Interim is a project, still in progress, in which Mary Kelly explores ‘the moment of middle age’ as ‘a state between’ for women. Corpus is the first part of the work (four parts are planned). It focuses on the body as definitive of woman — as desirable object or as mother. It was begun in 1983 and first exhibited at the Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh, Kettle’s Yard Gallery, Cambridge and Riverside Studios, London in 1985–86.
