Notes
The first UN Mission in Angola was simply titled UNAVEM (UN Angola Verification Mission). Once UNAVEM II was established, the first mission was then commonly referred to as UNAVEM I.
New Zealand also contributed a contingent of some 30 police to UNTAG.
The humanitarian responsibilities of UNAVEM III, particularly in relation to demining, are significant, but will not be addressed to any great degree in this paper.
