The Development of My Art as a Fiction Writer

Abstract

I began my writing in the summer of 1990. I can credit this beginning to the writer Joan Riley who invited me to an informal women writers’ workshop at her home. I went never having seriously considered taking up writing, yet I was intrigued by what was on offer. I went along intending to feed my fascination but also to hear writers read from their work. It was certainly not to contribute anything myself. Once there I was not allowed to get off as lightly as I had imagined.
