Summary
This investigation is concerned with the experimental and analytical study of grinding forces generated in plunge surface grinding with a resin-bonded CBN wheel. In contrast to Al2O3 grinding, the pattern of CBN grinding forces is unique which characterises its semi-permanent and other performance properties. To describe such behaviour, a mathematical model is proposed and validated using the experimental data. The applicability of the CIRP parameter ‘equivalent grinding thickness’ was also studied and found to give a fairly good fit of data after making suitable modifications.
