Abstract
Refraction occurring at the interface between two media having different acoustic impedances can represent a significant source of artefacts in flow imaging systems1. In previous studies, only refraction due to planar longitudinal waves was considered, and no reference was made to the possible effects of shear wave propagation. However, there are cases of interest where sound propagates in both shear and longitudinal modes, e.g. through the rigid tubes used in some flow phantoms.s
