Abstract

Instruments are probably the most neglected part of our surgical training: a senior house officer uses the instruments the registrar uses, who in turn usually takes whatever is in the hospital pack. The days have long departed when the newly appointed consultant was invited to submit his list of instrument requirements. Thus, nowadays, there is frequently little opportunity to question or consider the type of instrument we use.
