Abstract

In this book we have attempted to provide an introduction to the application of parallel processing in real-time control. Following a general introduction to parallel processing, we have identified the Inmos transputer and its associated parallel programming language, occam, as, arguably, the most suitable, currently available, parallel hardware and software vehicles for embedded control systems. Inevitably, therefore, the book includes frequent, though not exclusive, reference to their use.
